The global power industry noticed a 3.5% rise in IT hiring activity in July 2021 over the previous month, led by Siemens’s 19.9% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity increased 2% when compared with June 2021.

Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 9.14% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in July 2021, up 0.19% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of July 2021 were 1.82% lower compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 4.34% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 50.02% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in July 2021, a 21.47% decline over the previous month. Miscellaneous Computer Occupations came in second with a share of 13.91% in July 2021, down 9.05% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer and Information Analysts with a 12.45% share in July 2021, decline of 11.48% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.29% share in July 2021 and drop of 3.9% over June 2021.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in July 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average an flat growth share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during July 2021 over June 2021.
Siemens posted 518 IT jobs in July 2021 and registered a rise of 31.14% over the previous month, followed by Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista with 341 jobs and a 2.85% decline. NextEra Energy with 102 IT jobs and Schneider Electric with 101 jobs, recorded a 20.31% decline and a 24.06% drop, respectively, while PG&E recorded a 41.04% drop with 79 job postings during July 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in July 2021 with a 44.45% share, which marked a 6.16% drop over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 23.82%, registering a 30.8% month-on-month decline. Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 17.02% share and a 16.58% rise over June 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 13.29% and a month-on-month drop of 40.03%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.42%, registering a 131.25% increase over the previous month.
