The global power industry noticed a 10.8% decline in IT hiring activity in April 2021 over the previous month, led by Siemens’s 28.42% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The power industry’s overall hiring activity declined 6.99% when compared with March 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 9.71% share of the global power industry’s hiring activity in April 2021, down 0.54% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2021 were 3.18% higher compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 6.6% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 55.17% emerged as the top IT occupation in the power hiring activity in April 2021, a 16.61% decline over the previous month. Database and Network Administrators and Architects came in second with a share of 12.31% in April 2021, down 12.38% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with an 11.9% share in April 2021, decline of 6.81% over the previous month, and Computer and Information Analysts with a 9.46% share in April 2021 and drop of 13.65% over March 2021.
Top five power companies by recruitment activity in April 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 22.88% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global power industry during April 2021 over March 2021.
Siemens posted 817 IT jobs in April 2021 and registered a drop of 37.06% over the previous month, followed by Companhia de Transmissao de Energia Eletrica Paulista with 340 jobs and a 10.29% decline. Schneider Electric with 124 IT jobs and NextEra Energy with 122 jobs, recorded a 12.06% decline and a 16.19% growth, respectively, while Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology recorded a flat growth with 80 job postings during April 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in power industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global power IT hiring activity in April 2021 with a 41.74% share, which marked a 6.29% growth over the previous month.
Europe stood next with 23.03%, registering a 28.51% month-on-month decline.Asia-Pacific was the third leading region with a 19.65% share and a 32.66% decline over March 2021.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 14.4% and a month-on-month drop of 6.97%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 1.18%, registering a 26.09% drop over the previous month.
