Global technology company Voith has secured a contract to deliver hydropower technology for the Xiamen Pumped Storage Plant in China.
The contract was awarded by Fujian Xiamen Pumped Storage (Xiamen), a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC).

By GlobalDataUnder the contract, Voith will supply four 350MW reversible pump turbines and generators along with auxiliary equipment for the plant.
The Xiamen Pumped Storage Plant will feature a rated water head of 545m and a rated rotary speed of 428.6 rotations per minute.
The company expects to commission the first unit by the end of October 2023 while all the units will begin commercial operation by August 2024.
The Xiamen plant will have a total installed capacity of 1,400MW, and the project is expected to optimise the Fujian power grid’s energy structure by balancing peak periods, frequency and phase regulation.
In the past, Voith has supplied equipment for a number of pumped storage plants.
Voith Hydro is the full-line supplier and partner for equipping plants with hydropower technology.
In a separate development, Voith has received an order from Shanxi Yellow River Water Industry Corporation in Shanghai for the supply and installation of 19 large-scale pumps and accessories for the Wan Jia Zhai project to expand the existing water supply network in Bejing.
