The Haveli Bahadur Shah (HBS) power plant in Pakistan has commenced combined-cycle commercial operations following the completion of all commissioning activities.
Initiated by National Power Parks Management Company (NPPMCL), the project is expected to add up to 1.23GW of power to the national grid.

By GlobalDataNPPMCL CEO Rashid Mahmood said: “The start of combined cycle commercial operations at HBS Power Plant marks a major milestone in the power sector of Pakistan, supporting the government’s goal to enhance access to reliable, affordable power.
“The project has been developed to the highest standards of quality and excellence, and will serve as a benchmark for future electricity projects in terms of the technology being deployed.”
Power Construction subsidiary SEPCOIII served as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the project, and was responsible for setting up the power plant while executing all commissioning activities.
For the HBS project, GE supplied two of its advanced HA heavy-duty gas turbines, one steam turbine and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), in addition to offering technical advisory services.
Covering the equivalent to 65 football fields, HBS is capable of generating enough electricity to power nearly 2.5 million homes in Pakistan.
