US-based natural gas and energy utility MidAmerican Energy is planning to build two new wind farms called Arbor Hill and Orient, in Adair County, Iowa.
The Arbor Hill wind farm project will be equipped with 125 wind turbines, while the Orient wind farm project will feature 150 turbines and have the provision to add nearly 100 more turbines in the future.

The two projects will be built by the company under its previously announced Wind XI project.
The $3.6bn Wind XI project includes nearly 1,000 wind turbines and an addition of up to 2GW of wind-generation capacity in Iowa.
The project is slated for completion by next December.
Danish firm Vestas Wind Systems will be supplying 125 wind turbines for the two wind farms, which will generate 550MW of clean energy that will be sufficient to power more than 230,000 average homes in Iowa.

MidAmerican Energy resource development vice-president Mike Fehr said: “This is another step forward for our Wind XI project. Every wind farm we add gets us closer to achieving our 100% renewable energy vision.”
Arbor Hill and Orient will be added to MidAmerican Energy’s three existing wind farms in Adair County, which includes Adair, Morning Light and Rolling Hills.
Fehr added: “Wind energy is great for our customers because it’s a renewable resource that powers Iowa homes and businesses and it also helps energise the state’s economy.”
