Spain-based Elawan Energy has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) to build a 102MW windfarm in South Africa with an investment of €145m.
The PPA is part of the fourth round of the South African Power Plan tender, and will involve Elawan performing the project along with its local associates.

By GlobalDataThe Copperton windfarm will be located in the province of Northern Cape and its estimated annual production will be 360GWh per annum.
During its 20-year term, the company expects to generate revenue of more than €400m.
Works are scheduled to begin in the second half of this year with the windfarm expected to become operational by 2020.
Elawan Energy South Africa country manager Carlos Rodríguez Tortosa said: “It is very important for the construction of this project, which strengthens our commitment to the wind development on international markets with a higher power for this technology.
“Elawan Energy is building 200MW for the Persimon Creek project, Oklahoma, and 22MW for the Hannut project, Belgium, that will come into operation this year, and a photovoltaic plant of 24MW in Toledo, expected to start producing at the end of 2019.”
Elawan promotes wind energy and produces electricity from windpower, mainly focused on developing and operating windfarms in Europe, Brazil, the US, Mexico, Turkey, and South Africa.
Since it was founded in 2008, Elawan has built more than 1.4GW and has a portfolio of approximately 4GW of renewable energy generation projects, allowing it to maintain the strategy to build and operate more than 100MW per annum.
