MidAmerican Energy Company has expanded its wind capacity by 338MW with the completion of Beaver Creek and Prairie windfarms in Iowa, US.
MidAmerican initiated construction work last year after obtaining approvals from the Iowa Utilities Board in 2016. The farms are reported to have commenced commercial operations.
The 170MW Beaver Creek windfarm is located across Boone and Greene counties, while the 168MW Prairie windfarm is in Mahaska.
MidAmerican Energy resource development vice-president Mike Fehr said: “We’re committed to providing reliable service and outstanding value to our customers, and wind energy accomplishes both.
“Wind energy is good for our customers, and it’s an abundant, renewable resource that also energises the economy.”
The energy firm is reported to have installed 169 wind turbines at the two farms, which will produce enough electricity to meet the requirements of more than 140,000 homes in Iowa.
