Prysmian Group has secured a new contract from Cobra Wind International to provide a cable system to link the Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind Farm to the mainland UK.

This is claimed to be Prysmian’s first cable project for a floating offshore windfarm, which is expected to require the design and supply of two export cables, in addition to inter-array cables.

The Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind Farm is located around 15km south-east of Aberdeen.

Prysmian will provide the cable along with all associated cable accessories to link the turbines of the Kincardine Floating Offshore Wind Farm with the Scottish mainland power grid.

The installation of the cable is expected during this year and next year.

This 33kV three-core submarine cable will make use of an EPR insulation system. The static section length will come with single wire armouring while the dynamic section will feature a double wire armoured design.

The submarine cables will be produced at Prysmian’s facilities in Vilanova, Spain, and Drammen, Norway.
