Lazard emerged as the top financial adviser for mergers and acquisitions (M&A) in the power sector in 2024 both by value and volume, according to the latest financial advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s deals database indicates that Lazard earned the leading position by advising on 23 deals with a total value of $22.8bn.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “Lazard registered improvement in the number of deals advised by it as well as in total deal value in 2024 compared to 2023. Against this backdrop, it went ahead from occupying the ninth position by volume in 2023 to top the chart by this metric in 2024. Similarly, its ranking by value also improved from the third position in 2023 to the top position in 2024.”

The second position in terms of value was bagged by UBS, advising on $14.3bn worth of deals, followed by JP Morgan with $13.7bn, Goldman Sachs with $12.2bn and Citi with $11.5bn.

Rothschild & Co ranked second in terms of volume with 19 deals. This was followed by PwC with 14 deals, and Barclays and KPMG with 13 deals each.

GlobalData’s league tables are based on the real-time tracking of thousands of company websites, advisory firm websites and other reliable sources available on the secondary domain. A dedicated team of analysts monitors all these sources to gather in-depth details for each deal, including adviser names.
