Vestas has secured an order to supply turbines for the second phase of the Tyligulska project in Ukraine – the country’s largest wind energy project.

The order, which follows the successful commissioning of the first phase in spring 2023, will see Vestas deliver 64 turbines, contributing to a combined capacity of 498MW for both phases.

The second phase of the Tyligulska wind energy project marks a significant step forward in Ukraine’s renewable energy efforts.

With the addition of 384MW from this latest order, Vestas will provide a total of 83 V162-6.2MW wind turbines, each generating 6MW.

Vestas president and chief executive officer Henrik Andersen stated: “We are proud to expand our partnership with DTEK and to deliver our technology solutions to the Tyligulska project that will power Ukraine’s energy system.

“I want to thank DTEK for showing visionary leadership and authorities in Denmark, Ukraine and the European Union (EU) for their strong support to this ambitious project that will help strengthen Ukraine’s energy security,”

The project benefits from substantial international support, including backing from Danish and Ukrainian authorities and the EU.

It is also supported financially by EIFO, Denmark’s state-owned export and investment fund, highlighting the collaborative effort to enhance sustainable energy infrastructure in Ukraine.

DTEK CEO Maxim Timchenko said: “Today’s agreement is a big step towards a new energy future for Ukraine. From a system threatened daily by attacks, we are building a resilient and secure energy infrastructure that also helps Ukraine deliver on its climate commitments. Since the beginning of the invasion, we have already invested more than €1bn in Ukraine.

“This deal signals not only our confidence in Ukraine, but our partners’ trust in DTEK to deliver major energy projects during a war. Thank you to all our European partners for the role you are playing in strengthening Ukraine’s energy security.”

Vestas is also tasked with delivery and commissioning. Delivery is set to commence in the first quarter of 2025, with completion by the fourth quarter of 2026.

Vestas has committed to a long-term service agreement spanning two decades through its Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service package for both phases of the Tyligulska project.

This schedule aligns with Ukraine’s broader goals to increase its renewable energy capacity and reduce reliance on traditional energy sources.

In January 2025, Vestas secured new contracts totalling 134MW for wind turbine projects in Europe as part of its fourth quarter 2024 order intake.
