Massachusetts, US-based North Shore Community Health (NSCH) has signed a two-year renewable energy agreement with ENGIE Resources, a subsidiary of ENGIE North America.
The agreement ensures that the North Shore Community Health Centre will receive renewable energy credits (RECs) matching 100% of the forecasted energy consumption for its three locations in northeast Massachusetts.
NSCH operates as a federally qualified health centre with three full-time sites and two school-based health centres in Salem, Peabody and Gloucester.
Annually, it serves 14,000 patients, providing primary care, dental, behavioural health and substance use disorder services.
NSCH president and CEO Maggie Brennan stated: “Embracing an environmentally friendly mindset benefits communities of all shapes and sizes. Our commitment to sustainability is one step on a journey towards creating healthier and vibrant communities.”
NSCH’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond this agreement. The centre has implemented energy-efficient LED lighting, motion-sensor-controlled lighting in exam rooms and environmentally friendly dining practices.

By GlobalDataA hybrid working model is in place to reduce emissions from long commutes.
The green e-certified RECs acquired through the agreement will match 100% of North Shore’s energy demand.
This is equivalent to offsetting the CO₂ emissions from 302,325 pounds of coal burned, or the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by recycling 95.3 tonnes of waste.
The agreement also provides budget certainty with a fixed price structure.
Green-e RECs represent the environmental benefits of one megawatt hour of renewable energy and are certified by the nonprofit Center for Resource Solutions, ensuring proper accounting and preventing double counting of RECs.
ENGIE Resources business development manager Ted Conway stated: “We serve more than 200 hospitals across our footprint. It’s an honour to serve this sector and we admire the commitment of NSCH to provide vital community services and make a significant contribution to support renewable energy.”
