GE Vernova has secured a contract with Powerlink, Queensland’s state-owned transmission utility, to supply 69 dead tank circuit breakers (DTCBs) rated 245kV and above.
The agreement supports Queensland’s capital work programme to meet the state’s renewable energy targets and enhance the resilience of its power infrastructure.
Powerlink oversees the construction and maintenance of Queensland’s high-voltage transmission network. It is a crucial player in helping the state achieve its renewable energy targets of 70% by 2032 and 80% by 2035.
The integration of renewable energy sources into the grid is crucial for economic growth and sustainability, and Powerlink’s efforts are key to achieving these goals.
Powerlink CEO Paul Simshauser stated: “Our commitment to reliable and efficient energy transmission is furthered by partnering with GE Vernova to equip our network with advanced grid technology. This contract will help ensure that Powerlink’s infrastructure can support the ambitious goals of Queensland’s renewable energy investors.”
DTCBs are essential for maintaining stable power transmission by protecting the grid from electrical faults.
