Octopus Energy Generation, in collaboration with Skyborn Renewables, has been chosen by the French government to participate in the country’s upcoming offshore wind auction.
The French government will announce the winners of the tender in late 2025.
Skyborn Renewables brings more than two decades of experience to the partnership, with expertise spanning the entire offshore wind value chain.
Along with EDF Renewables, EIH S.à. r.l, a subsidiary of Enbridge, and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, the company recently commissioned the 500MW Fécamp wind farm in France and is working on another offshore project in the country.
Skyborn France managing director Guillain Chapelon stated: “We are delighted to be officially prequalified for the ninth offshore wind tender in France.
“Our unprecedented partnership with Octopus Energy Generation will enable us to offer a robust project, meeting the needs of all stakeholders involved.”

By GlobalDataOctopus Energy began investing in offshore wind farms in 2022 and has since supported six wind farms across the UK, Germany and the Netherlands.
The latest move marks Octopus Energy’s first global venture into early-stage offshore wind auctions, expanding its industry footprint.
In 2023 Octopus launched its Offshore Wind Fund, Vector, to accelerate the growth of this technology.
Through Vector, Octopus has invested in Ocergy, a French tech company innovating in floating offshore wind.
Octopus has now committed $2bn to offshore wind projects worldwide and aims to invest $20bn by 2030.
The company has a considerable presence in France’s clean energy sector, with more than 360MW of wind and solar projects, making the country the largest market for Octopus in continental Europe.
Octopus Energy Group also operates as an energy supplier in France and is targeting one million customers by 2030.
It recently introduced the Fan Club initiative in Nantes, offering discounted electricity rates to French customers living near wind farms when the wind is blowing.
Octopus Energy Generation CEO Zoisa North-Bond stated: “Offshore wind will undoubtedly play an integral role in France’s energy system, harnessing strong winds to generate more clean power.
“This exciting partnership with Skyborn is a game-changer, marking the first time Octopus will enter an offshore wind tender globally, and potentially adding a new country to our offshore wind roster.”
In September 2024, Octopus Energy Generation committed £2bn to UK renewables by 2030, with 222MW of solar in the pipeline.
