Poseidon Cables has secured a contract with NCT Offshore to provide cable pre-rigging and pull-in services for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 offshore wind farms in Taiwan.

The project, located between 35 and 60km offshore Changhua County, will become Taiwan’s largest wind power complex, generating enough energy to power one million Taiwanese households annually.

Poseidon Cables will perform the crucial task of pre-rigging and pulling in inter-array cables, essential for the infrastructure to operationalise the wind farms.

The partnership marks a significant milestone for Poseidon Cables, reinforcing its position as a leading provider of subsea cable solutions for offshore renewable energy projects.

NCT Offshore was awarded a contract in 2023 to install the 66 kV inter-array cables for the Greater Changhua 2b and 4 projects, with work set to commence in 2025.

The wind farms will play a significant role in advancing Taiwan’s renewable energy objectives.

In April 2024, Ørsted inaugurated the 900MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms offshore Taiwan, doubling the country’s offshore wind power generation capabilities.

The inauguration occurred at Ørsted’s operations and maintenance hub in the Port of Taichung.

In May, Ørsted appointed energy and marine consultancy ABL to provide marine warranty surveyor (MWS) services for the offshore transportation and installation of wind turbines and cables for the 920MW Greater Changhua 2b and 4 projects.

ABL’s role involves reviewing, surveying and approving all operations related to the transportation and installation of wind turbines and subsea cables.

The contract follows ABL’s appointment for MWS in 2022 for the 900MW Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms.
