ScottishPower Renewables has announced a £1bn ($1.2bn) agreement with Siemens Gamesa to supply 15MW turbines for the East Anglia 2 (EA2) offshore wind farm in the UK.
The wind farm, which is situated off the east coast of England, has a capacity of nearly 1GW.
As part of the agreement, Siemens Gamesa will provide 64 of its SG 14-236 DD offshore wind turbines, each boasting a rotor diameter of 236m.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: “Our mission to make Britain a clean energy superpower will fire up our industrial heartlands and break down barriers to growth in our hardworking towns and cities.
“It will strengthen our national security - protecting our children and grandchildren from the climate crisis, and impact this will have on their future prosperity.
“By acting decisively and early, the UK has an opportunity to lead the world in the industries of the future – working in partnership with businesses like ScottishPower and Siemens Energy – creating real energy security, cutting energy bills and building jobs and supply chains in the UK.”

The £4bn wind farm is expected to generate enough clean energy to power nearly one million homes.
This project builds on an earlier preferred supplier agreement between ScottishPower and Siemens Gamesa.
The 115m-long blades for the turbines will be produced at Siemens Gamesa’s offshore wind blade manufacturing facility in Hull.
The facility has experienced substantial growth, now employing approximately 1,300 people, following the recruitment of over 600 new staff members in the past 12 months.
Siemens Energy and Siemens Gamesa UK and Ireland vice-president Darren Davidson said: “The UK is the first leading industrial country to simultaneously phase out coal power and be a leader in offshore wind.
“If we’re to achieve our net-zero targets, it’s mission-critical this momentum is maintained. As well as delivering the blades to power the UK’s energy transition, our factory in Hull is acting as a catalyst for economic growth and green jobs across the region.”
Earlier this month, Cadeler secured contracts for the transport and installation of 64 15MW offshore turbines and foundations for the 960MW EA2 wind farm.
