Engie North America has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Google to provide renewable energy from its Chillingham solar project in Bell County, Texas.
The 90MW PPA will support Google’s operations in Texas and is part of the tech giant’s goal to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy by 2030.
The agreement with Google was facilitated by LevelTen Energy’s Accelerated Process (LEAP), a collaborative development between Google and LevelTen Energy.
LEAP aims to streamline the sourcing and execution of clean energy PPAs.
Google Data Center Energy global head Amanda Peterson Corio stated: “We’re pleased to further our collaboration with Engie with new carbon-free energy from its Chillingham plant that will supply our operations in Texas with clean power.
“This agreement is another example of how using our scalable procurement approach is transforming the way the industry sells and purchases power, and ultimately speeds up the development of carbon-free electricity.”

By GlobalDataThe Chillingham solar project, developed by Engie, is expected to come online in late 2024 and will be the company’s largest single solar project in the US.
Located north of Austin, Texas, the solar facility will add to Engie’s 8GW of renewable projects portfolio, encompassing solar, wind and battery storage in North America.
Engie noted that the project’s construction phase has created more than 300 jobs, with many workers coming from the local area.
The project is also projected to generate $72m in tax revenues over its lifespan, with $53m earmarked for local school districts.
The PPA is part of Engie’s successful year to date, having closed 1GW of signed PPAs in the US for 2024.
Engie North America chief renewables officer Dave Carroll said: “We are honoured to continue to expand ENGIE’s global relationship with Google, supporting their growth and delivery of their net zero commitments.
“We are proud that Engie’s proven track record in developing, building and operating renewable assets puts us at the forefront of the energy transition.
“Chillingham solar clearly demonstrates Engie’s track record of consistently delivering quality renewables projects that meet the needs of customers such as Google – allowing us to collaborate and meet their unique needs.”
In July 2024, Engie signed five corporate power purchase agreements with Google, committing to supply 118 MW of renewable energy from its onshore wind farms in Belgium.
