Orlen Group has acquired two solar photovoltaic (PV) farms and a wind farm, increasing its renewable energy generation capacity by more than 300MW.

ORLEN Wind 3, a subsidiary of ORLEN Group, has finalised the deal with EDP Renewables Polska.

The deal comprises two solar PV farms situated in the provinces of Zielona Góra and Poznań and a wind farm in the province of Łódź. The acquisition brings ORLEN Group’s total installed capacity to 580MW in onshore wind farms and more than 350MW in solar PV projects.

The new assets are projected to generate 400 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity annually, enough to supply 182,000 households.

The 26MW Warta onshore wind farm in the Łódź region began operations in May 2023. With a 40 megawatts peak (MWp) capacity, the first solar PV farm, located in Chotków, Zielona Góra province, commenced operations in January 2024.

The second, in Przykona municipality, Poznań province, has 200MWp capacity and is currently being expanded by an additional 40MWp. It will be completed by the end of 2024.

The investments enhance ORLEN Group’s presence in the Wielkopolska region, complementing its existing wind farms and the Gryf solar project.

The company also invests in smaller installations to power its infrastructure, including a 3MW solar PV system at the Ostrów Wielkopolski fuel terminal.

Further expansion includes a preliminary agreement signed by Energa Wytwarzanie, an ORLEN Group company, with Greenvolt for the Opalenica and Sompolno projects, totalling 58MW.

Construction is also underway on the Mitra (65MW) and Żuki (2.4MW) solar PV farms. ORLEN Group is aiming for 9GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030, with ongoing developments in offshore wind, including the Baltic Power project.

In August 2024, Orlen Wind 3 signed a preliminary agreement with EDP Renewables Polska to acquire the wind and solar assets.
