ARCO/Murray has been selected to build a solar manufacturing hub for Boviet Solar in North Carolina, US.

The project will create 900 jobs locally and consists of a two-phase programme aimed at enhancing solar module and cell production.

The first phase, which commenced construction in the third quarter of 2024, involves the transformation of an existing 500,000ft² facility into a modern manufacturing plant for solar modules.

The modules, incorporating Boviet Solar’s solar cell technology, will be geared towards residential, commercial and utility-scale solar applications throughout the US.

ARCO/Murray’s role extends to comprehensive upgrades of the building’s infrastructure, including mechanical and electrical enhancements, the installation of production equipment and assistance with start-up operations.

The second phase, to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024, will see the development of a new 600,000ft² facility.

The expansion aims to produce 2GW of advanced solar cells, crucial for improving the efficiency and output of solar power systems.

The construction will involve collaboration with international equipment manufacturers and local city and utility companies to implement the necessary systems, including a substation and a wastewater treatment plant to support the facility’s needs.

The hub will produce 2GW of solar modules and 2GW of solar cells annually, contributing to the US solar supply chain and supporting the country’s shift towards renewable energy.

ARCO/Murray vice-president Rick Guth stated: “We are proud to partner with Boviet Solar to deliver a world-class manufacturing facility that will drive the growth of solar energy production in the United States.

“This project exemplifies our expertise in managing complex design-build projects and our commitment to supporting sustainable development through innovative construction solutions.”
