A joint venture (JV) featuring French company Vinci Energies and UK-based construction firm Morgan Sindall has secured a new design-build contract for the development of power transmission infrastructure in Scotland.
Installation of 18.5km-long overhead lines will help connect Knocknagael substation with the new Tomatin substation in Inverness, Northern Scotland.
The work also includes 160km of conductors and the laying of a fibre optic earth wire between the Knocknagael, Farr and Tomatin substations.
Valued at £30m, the new project is part of a power transmission line contract with Scottish Southern Energy Networks (SSEN). To be carried out over a period of two years, it will involve the installation of 73 transmission towers in remote areas, which can only be accessed through purpose-built temporary access roads.
Once completed, the new power transmission line will support the Scottish high-voltage transmission grid and help develop onshore windpower generation in the area around Tomatin.
Vinci Energies UK CEO Rochdi Ziyat said: “This is a major project for Omexom and a good opportunity to demonstrate our expertise.
