The Offshore Renewable Energy (ORE) Catapult and RenewableUK have launched a new initiative to assess how wave and tidal stream technologies can meet the UK Government’s new triple test.
Climate Change and Industry Minister Claire Perry has designed the test to achieve optimum carbon reduction and demonstrate a clear cost reduction pathway.
Based on the results, ORE Catapult will work jointly with an industry steering group to provide an evidence-based objective report by the end of March next year.
The report will be presented to the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, in addition to the Scottish and Welsh Governments.
If approved, the new technologies will receive greater government and revenue support in the future.
ORE Catapult CEO Andrew Jamieson said: “The UK is already leading the world in deploying the first full-scale tidal power arrays and cutting-edge wave devices.
