Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) has delivered a third boiler unit for the Medupi Power Station in South Africa in collaboration with group companies in Africa and Europe.
Located in Lephalale, the dry-cooled coal-fired power station is currently under construction for South African electricity public utility Eskom.

The supercritical-pressure boiler unit was part of an order received in 2007.
Once completed, the Medupi Power Station will be capable of delivering an output of 4,800MW.
The new boiler is the fourth of 12 coal-fired units, each with an output capacity of 800MW.
The new supercritical-pressure technologies support enhanced power generation capacity in comparison with conventional coal-fired systems.

By GlobalDataMHPS will continue to support the development of the remaining eight boilers. The first unit has been installed at the Kusile Power Station and is in commercial operation since August this year. The other two have been in commercial operation at the Medupi Power Station since August 2015 and April this year.
Once completed, the Medupi and Kusile power stations are expected to boost the economic development of South Africa and its neighbouring nations.
