Spanish renewables developer ACCIONA Energía has received Green Lane status for its 150MW Daanbantayan Photovoltaic Project on the island of Cebu in the Philippines.

The status, granted by the country’s Board of Investments (BOI), expedites the permitting process among government agencies and streamlines the project’s development and construction.

The Daanbantayan solar power project will be developed with an investment of $130m.

The project will generate numerous direct and indirect jobs during its construction and operational phases.

Located at the northern tip of Cebu, the project aligns with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) to bolster renewable energy capacity, ensure energy security and foster sustainable economic growth.

The initial power output from the solar project will be distributed through private power purchase agreements (PPAs) with local electricity cooperative CEBECO II.

Surplus energy will be sold at the Department of Energy’s (DOE) annual green auction.

ACCIONA’s presence in the Philippines extends beyond this project, with operations in the water and infrastructure divisions since 2016.

The company has also announced the development of a 156MW wind farm in Pantabangan and has commenced construction of the 100MW Kalayaan 2 wind farm in the province of Laguna.

In August 2024, ACCIONA Energía secured a 12-year contract for difference (CfD) for its Promina solar energy project in Croatia.

The 189 megawatts peak solar power plant, which is currently being developed, will become the largest solar facility in Croatia in 2027.

Situated in the Šibenik-Knin County in the south of the country, the facility will install 300,000 photovoltaic (PV) modules, generating 320 gigawatt hours of clean electricity per year – enough to meet the energy needs of 69,000 homes and reduce CO₂ emissions by 140,000t annually.

The CfD for the Promina plant was awarded through a competitive public auction as part of a Croatian government support initiative, managed by the Croatian energy regulator HROTE and authorised by the European Commission.
