New windpower company Ventient Energy has been launched with an installed capacity of 690MW.
The new company is claimed to be the UK’s third largest onshore wind energy generator and the largest non-utility owner of onshore wind.
Ventient Energy was created by merging 15 Zephyr windfarms with 19 farms formerly owned by Infinis Wind. These 34 onshore farms are situated all over the UK, from Caithness in Scotland to Cornwall, England.
Equipped with a total of 507 turbines, the farms are capable of generating power for around 420,000 homes annually.
Ventient Energy CEO Scott Mackenzie said: “We are ambitious, committed to creating prosperity through safe and sustainable generation of renewable sourced electricity, through quality job creation and supporting the communities in which we operate.
“The UK onshore wind market is fragmented, and Ventient Energy owns only 6% of market capacity at present, so we see plenty of opportunities to grow our installed capacity through consolidation.”

The change also enabled Ventient Energy’s new base in Edinburgh to handle the asset management services previously provided by Innogy Renewable UK.
