Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has secured a notice to proceed (NTP) from Indonesia’s PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) for the conversion of Muara Tawar power plant from a 1,150MW gas-fuelled thermal power facility to a 1,800MW combined cycle plant.

Valued at around KRW470bn ($420m), a consortium of Doosan Heavy and Indonesia’s state-owned construction company PT Hutama Karya was awarded the project in March this year.

“Completion of the project is scheduled to take around thirty months.”

Having recently concluded a project financing arrangement for the conversion, PLN will pay Doosan Heavy a down payment of KRW45bn ($40m) of its KRW300bn ($268m) share in the conversion project by the end of the year.

Eight new heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and three steam turbines will be delivered at the site as part of the upgrade.

Completion of the project is scheduled to take around 30 months.

It is expected to help realise the Government of Indonesia’s goal of installing 35GW of power generation capacity by 2019.
