Vestas has launched a new V120-2.0/2.2MW turbine for the wind energy sector in China.

The newly announced build-up version of the turbine is designed to be installed on farms with low and ultra-low wind conditions.

The V120-2.0/2.2MW turbine features upgrades from Vestas’ previous 2MW platform, including a 120m rotor that has been manufactured using new carbon technology.

It also features a 19% larger swept area than the V110-2.0MW version.

In addition, the new turbines are capable of achieving up to 13% greater annual energy production (AEP) in comparison with the V110-2.2MW model.

“Projects in China are increasingly moving to low and ultra-low wind areas in south-eastern parts of the country, and the V120-2.0/2.2MW turbine is specifically designed for such wind regimes.”

Delivery of the new turbines is scheduled to begin by the third quarter of next year and manufacturing is expected to be carried out in Tianjin, China.
