Description
The project was developed by Bangweulu Power, First Solar and Neoen. Neoen, First Solar and Industrial Development Corporation (Zambia) are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 55%, 25% and 20% respectively.
West Lunga Solar PV Park is a ground-mounted solar project which is spread over an area of 52 hectares.
The project generates 100,000MWh electricity and supplies enough clean energy to power 30,000 households, offsetting 19,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

The project construction commenced in 2017 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in March 2019.
Power purchase agreement
The power generated from the project is sold to ZESCO under a power purchase agreement. The power is sold at the rate of $0.06kWh for a period of 25 years, starting from 2019. The contracted capacity is 47.5MW.

Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the solar PV power project.
First Solar was selected as the supplier of the PV modules for the project. The company installed 453,000 modules at the site.
Huawei Technologies supplied 1,230 of its SUN2000-42 KTL inverters to the project site.
Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy is the O&M contractor for the solar PV power project, commencing from the year 2019.
