MidAmerican Energy Holdings has reached an agreement with Invenergy Wind to acquire the 81MW Bishop Hill II wind project in the US state of Illinois.
The project, currently under construction, will feature 50 General Electric 1.62MW turbines. Under the terms of a 20-year power purchase agreement, Ameren Illinois will purchase the electricity generated from the site.
Work on the project began in the fourth quarter of 2011. It is the second phase of the Invenergy’s Bishop Hill Wind Energy Center development and commercial operations are expected to begin towards the end of the year.
The first phase, Bishop Hill I, is also is under construction in Henry County and due to start operating commercially this year as well.
Michael Polsky, Invenergy president and CEO, said: "We are please to reach this agreement with MidAmerican and look forward to working together to make the Bishop Hill Wind Energy Center the pre-eminent wind project in Illinois."
