SPX Corporation has announced that its joint venture with Shanghai Electric has won equipment supply contracts worth $40m for power plants in China.
Shanghai Electric-SPX Engineering & Technologies (SEC-SPX) will provide air cooled condensers (ACC) to the Mengtai, Baota and Zhong Yu power plants.

By GlobalDataThe Baota plant, located in the Xinjiang Hui region, is a 2x350MW coal-fired power plant, while the coal-fired Mengtai plant in the Inter Mongolia region is a 2x330MW facility.
The contracts will call for SEC-SPX to supply a whole ACC island, including two 6×5 modules to the plants, which will be operational in Q4 2013 and Q3 2014 respectively.
SEC-SPX will also provide a whole ACC island to the 1x135MW coal-fired Zhong Yu power plant, located in the Shanxi Province, including 16 4×4 modules. This facility is expected to be fully operational by Q1 2013.
SPX chairman, president and CEO Christopher J Kearney said that the company’s joint venture with Shanghai Electric was an important step in strengthening its position in China.
“Through our joint venture with Shanghai Electric, we are well positioned to supply the products and services that can help deliver reliable electrical supplies and support China’s expanding energy infrastructure,” said Kearney.
