Machu Picchu is a run-of-river project. The gross head of the project is 365m. The total number of penstocks, pipes or long channels that carry water down from the hydroelectric reservoir to the turbines inside the actual power station, are 2 in number. Machu Picchu underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 1998-2001, 2009-2015.

Machu Picchu (Machu Picchu 1) consists of 1 unit of francis turbine with 20MW nameplate capacity.

Machu Picchu (Machu Picchu 2) consists of 1 unit of francis turbine with 102MW nameplate capacity.

Development status

The project construction commenced in 1958 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in 1963.

Machu Picchu (Machu Picchu 3) is equipped with GE Renewable Energy pelton turbines. The phase consists of 3 turbines with 30.15MW nameplate capacity.
