Description

The project was developed by Air Water and Energia Power Onahama. Air Water and The Chugoku Electric Power are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 51% and 49% respectively.

The electricitiy generated from the plant has offsetted 430,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

The process of combustion has been adopted in this project to release the stored energy from the feed. Agricultural by-product and wood by-product are used as a feedstock to power the project.

The project construction commenced in 2019 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in April 2021.

Power purchase agreement

The power generated from the project is sold to Tohoku Electric Power under a power purchase agreement at the rate of $0.215kWh.

Contractors involved

JFE Engineering was selected to render engineering procurement construction services for the biopower project.

Valmet supplied steam boiler for the project.
