Description

The project is being developed by MGT Teesside. The project is co-owned by Macquarie Group and Pensionskassernes Administration, with their respective ownership stake of 50% each.

The project is expected to generate 2,400GWh electricity and supply enough clean energy to power 600,000 households. The project is expected to offset 1,200,000t of carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) a year.

The process of combustion will be adopted in this combined heat and power (CHP) project to release the stored energy from the feed. Wood by-product will be used as a feedstock to power the project.

Development status

The project construction is expected to commence from 2017. Subsequent to that it will enter into commercial operation by 2025.

Contractors involved

Samsung C&T and Tecnicas Reunidas are expected to render engineering procurement construction services for the biopower project.

Doosan Skoda Power will be the steam turbine supplier for the project. The company is expected to provide 1 unit of DST-S20 turbine with 299MW nameplate capacity.

Sumitomo SHI FW Energia is likely to be the supplier of the steam boiler for the project. The boiler that will get installed at the site is expected to have a capacity of 824TPH. The temperature expected to be witnessed inside the boiler will be around 568°C. The steam will be pressurized inside the boiler at 176bar.

Fortum is expected to perform operations and maintenance for the project for a period of 10 years.
