Description

Doel 4 is a Generation II nuclear reactor developed by Alstom ACEC Energie, John Cockerill Group and Westinghouse Electric, are the main contractors for the project.

The 1,090MW reactor is operated by Electrabel. Electrabel and Luminus are currently owning the project having ownership stake of 89.81% and 10.19% respectively.

The PWR reactor generates 7,952.78GWh/annum of electricity. It features 157 fuel assemblies in the core of reactor, the place where fission occurs and energy is released. Safety contol rods that are used to control the fission rate in the reactor are 24 in number.

Development status

The reactor construction commenced in Dec, 1978 and subsequently entered into commercial operation in Jul, 1985.

GE Power was selected as the steam turbine supplier for the nuclear reactor. The company provided 1 steam turbine for the project. Tractebel Engineering was selected as an architect engineer for the reactor. The reactor system was supplied by Westinghouse Electric Co LLC, John Cockerill Group and Alstom ACEC Energie. The reactor vessel has been supplied by ArcelorMittal. The material used for the construction of the vessel is Alloyed Steel (SA- 533/SA-508). The civil works were carried out by TVBB.
