BluEarth Renewables has received an approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for its Bull Creek wind power project in Canada.

With this approval, the company now plans to apply for municipal development permits and continues to work on securing additional power purchase agreements for the 115MW wind power plant in the Provost, Alberta area.

The Bull Creek project will have 46 General Electric model 2.5-103, 25MW wind turbines with a total generating capacity of 115MW. The project will have power lines and a transformer station, and an operations facility.

It will also have a 34.5kV collector system consisting primarily of underground power lines with some overhead sections.

The wind farm, at peak, would supply power to 30,000 to 35,000 homes and will help Alberta meet its future energy needs with clean renewable energy.

Power generated by the project will be sold to the Alberta Schools Commodities Purchasing Consortium (CPC) and used to power many of Alberta’s schools and educational facilities through a long term power purchase contract.

BluEarth Renewables president and CEO Kent Brown said: "Once built, this project will contribute to the diversification of wind generation in Alberta, which has historically been concentrated in the southern part of the province.

Locating the project away from existing wind farms in southern Alberta increases the efficiency of Bull Creek’s energy contribution to Alberta Interconnected Electrical System."

In June 2012, BluEarth submitted its facilities application to the AUC for the Bull Creek wind project and associated substation. The AUC has also approved to construct and operate the substation designated as Bull Creek 280S substation in the Provost area.
