Notably, Computer and Information Systems Managers jobs accounted for a 4% share of the global power industry’s environmental sustainability-related total new job postings in Q3 2022, up 59% over the prior quarter.

Computer and Information Systems Managers drive environmental sustainability-related hiring activity

Computer and Information Systems Managers, with a share of 4%, emerged as the top environmental sustainability-related job roles within the power industry in Q3 2022, with new job postings rising by 59% quarter-on-quarter. Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers came in second with a share of 3% in Q3 2022, with new job postings rising by 59% over the previous quarter.

The other prominent environmental sustainability roles include General and Operations Managers with a 2% share in Q3 2022, Heavy Vehicle and Mobile Equipment Service Technicians and Mechanics with a 2% share of new job postings.

Top five companies in power industry accounted for 69% of hiring activity

The top companies, in terms of number of new job postings tracked by GlobalData, as of Q3 2022 were Vestas Wind Systems, NextEra Energy, Algonquin Power & Utilities and Hitachi Zosen Inova. Together they accounted for a combined share of 69% of all environmental sustainability-related active jobs in the power industry.

Vestas Wind Systems posted 2,884 environmental sustainability-related new jobs in Q3 2022, NextEra Energy 2,369 jobs, Algonquin Power & Utilities 2,224 jobs, and Hitachi Zosen Inova 1,778 jobs, according to GlobalData’s Job Analytics.

Hiring activity was driven by the US with a 60% share of total active job postings, Q3 2022

The largest share of environmental sustainability-related new job postings in the power industry in Q3 2022 was in the US with 60% followed by the UK (9%) and Canada (7%). The share represented by the US was seven percentage points lower than the 67% share it accounted for in Q2 2022.
