Gwynt Glas Offshore Wind Farm has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Associated British Ports and Port of Milford Haven to prepare the region for floating wind farms in the Celtic Sea.
Gwynt Glas is a proposed floating offshore wind farm that could produce 1GW of green energy. It is a joint venture (JV) of EDF Renewables UK and DP Energy.
Once completed, the clean energy from the floating offshore wind facility will power nearly 927,400 homes and support The Crown Estate’s target of 4GW of capacity in the Celtic Sea.
EDF Renewables Offshore Development manager Claire Gilchrist said: “This MoU is an excellent opportunity for our industries to learn from one another as we develop our plans for Gwynt Glas.
“We need to understand the current level and type of infrastructure that is available at the ports to accurately reflect the opportunities and challenges to be faced, to enable the successful delivery of floating offshore wind at scale.”
As per the MoU, information and knowledge will be shared for the development of manufacturing, assembly, load-out and servicing infrastructure on South Wales Ports of Port Talbot and Milford Haven.
