Southern Power is to develop 131MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the state of Georgia, US.
First Solar has been picked as the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the project.
The facility will be built on a 911-acre site in Taylor County in Georgia. It will be equipped with around 1.6 million thin-film solar PV modules, which will be mounted on single-axis tracking tables.
Construction is scheduled to start in September 2015 and the project is likely to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2016.
Once operational, the solar facility will generate enough power for more than 21,000 households.
Three electric membership corporations in the state, namely Cobb Electric Membership (Cobb EMC), Flint Electric Membership (doing business as Flint Energies), and Sawnee Electric Membership (Sawnee EMC), will buy power from the project following its completion, along with the associated renewable energy credits (RECs).
