DR, technology provider for the global offshore energy industry, has extended its service support contract with Siem Offshore Contractors for EnBW’s 288MW Baltic 2 offshore wind farm in Germany.

The offshore facility is located 32km north of the Baltic island of Rügen. It will house 80 wind turbines supplied by Siemens, 34 of which have been presently installed.

According to the deal, JDR will offer pre-commissioning, test, and termination services for the project.

Once operational, the facility has an annual generation capacity of 1,200GWh.

As well as providing sufficient power to electrify around 340,000 homes, the facility will offer the benefits of reducing 900,000t of CO2 emission.

EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg had consented to the sale of its 49.89% stake in the Baltic 2 wind project earlier in the year, which will be acquired by Macquarie Capital for nearly €720m.

EnBW will retain the remaining stake for the facility. The wind farm is scheduled to start operations by spring this year.
