Australia-based electricity generating company CS Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EDF Renewables for the development of the 230MW Banana Range Wind Farm in Central Queensland.
Under the terms of the agreement, CS Energy is also considering buying an equity stake in the proposed Banana Range Wind Farm, as well as purchasing clean energy from the project.
CS Energy CEO Andrew Bills said: “This MoU demonstrates CS Energy’s commitment to securing a balanced mix of energy sources that can meet our customers’ requirements while also supporting Queensland power system security and reliability.”
Located in the Biloela region, the Banana Range Wind Farm will have the capacity to generate enough clean energy to power 15,000 homes.
The project is expected to create 150 jobs in its construction phase.
Construction works at the site are expected to begin in 2024 and the project is due to come online in 2026.

By GlobalDataQueensland Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen Mick de Brenni said that the wind farm adds to the renewable energy generation projects pipeline and diversifies the portfolio of the state’s publicly owned energy companies.
EDF Renewables Australia CEO Dave Johnson said: “CS Energy has an established, long-term presence in the Banana Shire Council district through its Callide Power Station, and EDF Renewables is building a large presence in the same community with the construction of the Banana Range Wind Farm.
“It’s an ideal partnership that brings together like-minded companies working together on common interests, which includes maximising opportunities for the local community through the energy transformation.”
The Banana Range Wind Farm would help Queensland meet its target of generating 50% of its energy from renewable sources.
CS Energy supplies power to commercial and industrial businesses and is investing in solar and wind farms, renewable hydrogen and batteries among other assets.
The company is owned by the Queensland government.
