carnegie wave energy

Australian Carnegie Wave Energy has developed a site at the Wave Hub in Cornwall, UK, to test its patented CETO wave energy technology project.

The fully submerged wave project is the only one in the world to use breakthrough technology enabling production of zero-emission renewable power and desalinated freshwater from ocean swells.

Carnegie’s berth at the Hub will be supported by the developed infrastructure and supply chain in the area, which will facilitate the deployment of the CETO 6 wave technology.

The wave-based technology has already been independently verified by French renewable energy giant EDF – Energies Nouvelles and engineering consultant Frazer Nash.

Carnegie intends to deploy the CETO 6 solution in 2018 at the Wave Hub.

"Carnegie has invested over £60m in the development of the CETO technology."

The firm will conduct the pre-commercial testing for the technology at the UK hub, which is located 16km offshore in the eastern extremes of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Wave Hub will allow the Australian firm to have direct grid access with a capacity of 30MW-48MW and an on-facility substation.

Carnegie has already started working on the project at the test site. Construction is expected to start from 2017, with the first power generation scheduled to begin by 2018.

Carnegie Wave Energy business development manager Tim Sawyer said: "Carnegie has invested over £60m in the development of the CETO technology and have completed extensive R&D at our private Wave Energy Research Facility and commercial scale in-ocean testing at Garden Island, Western Australia.

"To bridge the gap between pre-commercial development and commercial roll-out, we required a facility that offers supporting infrastructure, streamlined approvals and direct access to the grid and Wave Hub clearly meets these requirements."
