The German Federal Network Agency has awarded RWE two onshore wind projects in an onshore wind power infrastructure auction.
With a total installed capacity of 45MW, the Grevenbroich wind farm is located in North Rhine-Westphalia while the Bartelsdorf 2 project is in Lower Saxony, Germany.

By GlobalDataThe Grevenbroich wind farm will have an installed capacity of 17.1MW and the construction works at the site are expected to begin as early as the second quarter of this year.
It will be equipped with three 5.7MW Nordex turbines and the facility is expected to come online by the end of 2022.
For the Bartelsdorf 2 project, RWE will be adding five additional Nordex wind turbines to the existing project, which is located In the rural district of Rotenburg (Wümme) between Hamburg and Bremen.
With the additional wind turbines, the wind farm’s capacity will be increased to 28.5MW.
Construction works at the Bartelsdorf 2 project is planned for later this year and is slated to be commissioned in 2023.
Out of the five turbines, two will be owned by Bürgergesellschaft Heidland Wind, a local citizens’ cooperative, while the other three will be operated by RWE.
RWE noted that this year, it is investing $65.8m (€60m) for constructing three new German onshore projects, including Sandbostel-Bevern, Grevenbroich and Bartelsdorf 2.
RWE Renewables Europe and Australia Wind Onshore and Solar CEO Katja Wünschel said: “It will take a huge effort if Germany is to draw almost all of its electricity from renewable energy by 2035. This shows how important it is to accelerate the expansion of renewable energy.
“RWE wants to contribute to this, especially in its home market of Germany, and implement every project that is possible.
“The wind farms in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony are good examples of this. By the end of the decade, we plan to invest up to €15bn gross in our green core business here in Germany.”
