Chinese renewable energy solution developer JA Solar has launched a new 400MW solar cell production facility at Penang, Malaysia.
The facility is the firm’s first production unit outside China and involved an investment of around MYR300m ($70.9m).

Developed in Penang Bayan Lepas Industrial Park, the new production unit will offer 700 job opportunities to the local area.
JA Solar will be producing multi-crystalline solar cells at the plant, which can be used for efficient solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation.
JA Solar chairman and CEO Baofang Jin said: "We are pleased to launch our manufacturing plant in Malaysia, as the country offers many attractive benefits including an investment-friendly and supportive business environment.
"Penang’s strategic location in South East Asia, its accessibility to airports and seaports, and the availability of reliable infrastructure are advantageous for our additional manufacturing capacity as we continue to explore new export markets."

JA Solar had introduced 60-cell double-glass modules for the renewable energy sector in August this year.
The modules have passed reliability tests required by IEC61215 and IEC61730 standards and are encapsulated using 2.5mm-thick high-strength tempered glass on both sides with a frameless design.
The modules have been designed to withstand high-temperature, high-humidity, windy, salty, or arid conditions including coastal fronts, fish farms, and deserts which can ensure its steady performance amidst harsh environment.
