Power industry contracts in January 2022: Europe leads global activity
On comparing contracts activity in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with 55 contracts and a share of 30.2% during January 2022, followed by North America with 47 contracts and a 25.8% share and Asia-Pacific with 47 contracts and a 25.8% share.
In fourth place was Middle East and Africa with 23 contracts and a 12.6% share and in fifth place was South and Central America with ten contracts and a 5.5% share.

Solar tops by technology in January 2022
Looking at contracts by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 77 contracts and a 52.4% share, followed by wind with 50 contracts and a 34% share and thermal with 12 contracts and an 8.2% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment during January 2022, with 67 contracts, followed by Power Plant (41) and Generation Equipment (38).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the month was as follows:
- Power Purchase Agreement: 66 contracts and a 36.3% share
- Supply & Erection: 56 contracts and a 30.8% share
- Project Implementation: 42 contracts and a 23.1% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: 11 contracts and a 6% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: six contracts and a 3.3% share
- Electricity Supply: one contract and a 0.5% share.

The top issuers of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Pacific Gas and Electric (United States): 1,323.7MW from eight contracts
- Southern Power Distribution Company of Andhra Pradesh (India) and Eastern Power Distribution Co of Andhra Pradesh (India): 625MW from one contract
- Alcoa (United States): 573MW capacity from one contract.

The top winners of contracts for the month in terms of power capacity involved were:
- Apex Clean Energy Holdings (United States) and Sembcorp India (India): 625MW from one contract
- China Power Engineering Consulting Group (China): 574MW from five contracts
- Capital Energy (United States): 573MW capacity from one contract.
