Indian power plant equipment manufacturer Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) has successfully commissioned the third unit of the four 40MW Teesta Low Dam Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in West Bengal.
Located in the Darjeeling district of the Indian state, the run-of-the-river greenfield project is being developed on the River Teesta by Indian hydropower generation company National Hydroelectric Power (NHPC).
Generation from the project will help reduce green-house gas emissions and attain a low carbon development path for both West Bengal and the entire nation.
BHEL has carried out electrical and mechanical (E&M) works for the four units. Work included the design, production, delivery, installation, and commissioning of complete E&M works, as well as deployment of vertical shaft Kaplan Turbines and matching generators.
BHEL has supplied the equipment at its various units in Jhansi, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Bengaluru. On-site work will be executed by the company’s Power Sector Eastern Region.
The fourth and final unit of the Teesta HEP project is also in advanced stages of its development.
