North America power industry contracts in Q4 2021: The US leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, the US led the activity in Q4 2021 with 153 contracts and a share of 91.1%, a flat growth over the previous quarter and down 17% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Canada with 12 contracts and a share of 7.1% and Mexico with three contracts and a share of 1.8% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, the US held the top spot with 184 contracts, followed by Canada with 16 and Mexico with four contracts.

Solar is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, solar accounted for the largest proportion with 94 contracts and a 60.3% share, followed by wind with 37 contracts and a 23.7% share and hydro with nine contracts and a 5.8% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Electricity Procurement was the most popular segment in North America power contracts activity during Q4 2021, with 52 contracts, followed by Power Plant (44) and Generation Equipment (43).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 52 contracts and a 31% share
- Project Implementation: 50 contracts and a 29.8% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 47 contracts and a 28% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: eight contracts and a 4.8% share
- Electricity Supply: five contracts and a 3% share
- Consulting & Similar Services: four contracts and a 2.4% share
- Others: two contracts and a 1.2% share.
