South and Central America power industry contracts in Q4 2021: Brazil leads activity
Looking at contracts by country, Brazil led the activity in Q4 2021 with 21 contracts and a share of 47.7%, up 0.2% over the previous quarter and down 19% when compared with the last four-quarter average, followed by Colombia with seven contracts and a share of 15.9% and Chile with four contracts and a share of 9.1% during the quarter.
Looking at the last four-quarter average, Brazil held the top spot with 26 contracts, followed by Chile with ten and Colombia with four contracts.

Wind is top technology area for contracts in Q4 2021
Looking at contracts divided by the type of technology, wind accounted for the largest proportion with 16 contracts and a 43.2% share, followed by solar with 14 contracts and a 37.8% share and thermal with five contracts and a 13.5% share.
Looking at power industry contracts divided by segment as tracked by GlobalData, Generation Equipment was the most popular segment in South and Central America power contracts activity during Q4 2021, with 16 contracts, followed by Electricity Procurement (12) and Power Plant (11).
The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:
- Supply & Erection: 16 contracts and a 36.4% share
- Project Implementation: 13 contracts and a 29.5% share
- Power Purchase Agreement: 12 contracts and a 27.3% share
- Repair, Maintenance, Upgrade & Others: three contracts and a 6.8% share.

- Wartsila (Finland): 150MW capacity from one contract.
