Spanish electric utilities company Iberdrola has commissioned the Teles Pires hydroelectric power plant in Brazil.
Teles Pires comes with an installed capacity of 1,820MW, which is sufficient to provide power to approximately five million people.
This project comprises five turbines, each with a capacity of 364MW.
Located on the border of Pará and Mato Grosso on the River Teles Pires, which is a tributary of the River Tapajós, the plant was developed by a consortium comprising Brazil-based Neoenergia (with a 50.1% stake), Furnas (24.5%), Eletrosul (24.5%) and Odebrecht (0.9%).
Iberdrola completed this project in 40 months.
Aorund 6,500 employees worked on the project.
