The project is being developed by Punjab Power Development. China International Water & Electric and Punjab Power Development are currently owning the project.
Taunsa is a run-of-river project. The gross head and net head of the project will be 7.25m and 5.8m respectively. The project is expected to generate 468 GWh of electricity. The project cost is expected to be around $449.3m.
The hydro power project consists of 9 units of bulb turbines.
The project has 9 electric generators that will be installed at the project site.

About Punjab Power Development
Punjab Power Development Co Ltd (PPDCL) is an energy department of government of Punjab. The agency produces and supplies renewable energy to Pakistan. It generates energy from hydropowers from hydro plants at the river basins, solar energy generation plants, biomass based electricity, and coal based energy in collaboration with small scale private investors. PPDCL operates through punjab power generation policy for power generation and transmission. The agency’s policy seeks to seed technologies including coal, hydel, wind, solar, and bio-mass. It operates Hydel projects in the private sector, which would be implemented on build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis while other projects in the private sector can be established on either BOOT basis or on build-own-operate (BOO) basis. PPDCL is headquartered in Lahore, Pakistan.
