Finnish company Wärtsilä will deliver two 50MW gas-fired smart power generation plants to energy and services company Centrica in the UK.
Under the terms of the deal, the company will also provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work for the UK power projects.
Located at Brigg in North East Lincolnshire and Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, the two power plants will supply power to the national grid. Together, they will to generate enough energy to meet the needs of approximately 100,000 UK families in less than two minutes from start to full load.
Each gas-fired smart power generation plant is based on five Wärtsilä 34SG engines operating on natural gas.
The Wärtsilä technology has the ability start rapidly, one of the major reasons it was selected for the two projects.

The two plants are expected to be operational next year. The total installed capacity of Wärtsilä in the UK will reach more than 250MW, while the company’s cumulative installed power generation capacity is more than 60GW across 176 countries.
