Kpong is a run-of-river project. The hydro reservoir capacity is 1.4 million cubic meter. Kpong underwent through rehabilitation & modernization during 2014-2020.

VRA distributes electricity through the Northern Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. Through its subsidiaries, the authority also provides hospitality; river transportation; and commercial farming, agro-processing, and machinery services. VRA is headquartered in Accra, Ghana.
