Out of 1,996 active assignees during the review quarter, Xi’an Thermal Power Research Institute registered a growth change of 42% with 311 patent grants, followed by China Southern Power Grid with 20% (542), Samsung SDI with 11% (414), State Gridof China with -2% (2692) and ABB with -7% (185).

In terms of sub-sector composition, Transmission & Distribution led IP protection with 5,520 patent grants during the review quarter, followed by Solar PV with 5,475, Energy Infrastructure with 3,287, Energy Storage with 2,624, and Offshore with 1,909.
IP protection activity by region
China led IP protection activity with 4,781 grants and 3,184 new filings during the Jul-Sep 2021 quarter, followed by the US with 1,475 grants and 1,325 new filings.
Korea (South) came in next with 797 grants and 476 new filings. Japan and Taiwan stood next with 372 grants and 553 new filings; 101 grants and 159 new filings, respectively.
New entrants in Jul-Sep 2021
East West Manufacturing, Hochschule Mittweida, ThayerMahan, Prince Sultan University and Patek Philippe are the five new entrants in the Power industry with three, two, two, two and two patent filings, respectively during the Jul-Sep 2021 quarter.
